DIY - Summer Cup Look

“A new dress doesn't get you anywhere. It's the life you're living in the dress”
- Diana Vreeland December is officially the beginning of the festive season here in Johannesburg, and also happens to be my favorite month, because it is also my birthday month. I started off my december with a fabulous day at the horse races. The Gauteng Summer Cup is Joburg’s oldest and largest horse racing event which is held at the historic Turffontein racecourse. I love having a good excuse to dress up and this event was definitely one for that. I opted for a dress that I made out of a custom-made shield-print fabric. The shield-print on the fabric is inspired by the shields carried by Zulu warriors when they went out to the battlefield. I thought that would be the perfect look for an African-themed horse race as well. The bodice is made out of a cream poly-satin with an open back. The look of course had to be finished off with a fascinator, as is fitting for race-day attire. Here’s to a great summer!!
